Meet Dr. Isaac So, DDS

Dr. Isaac So joins Greater Washington Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from “the other Washington (State),” bringing rigorous surgical training and a deep commitment to patient-centered and compassionate care to Northern Virginia. A Seattle native, he is excited to put down roots in the community his family now calls home.

Dr. So completed both his undergraduate education and dental school training at the University of Washington, which shaped his foundation in comprehensive dental care and revealed his calling toward surgery. The combination of technical precision, anatomic complexity, and the opportunity to deliver immediate, life-changing results drew him to oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Following dental school, Dr. So completed a non-categorical surgical internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. The year provided intensive exposure to high-acuity surgical cases and built the foundation he carried into residency.

Dr. So then completed his four-year surgical residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a high-volume Level I center where he trained across the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery — from routine extractions to complex facial reconstruction.

His clinical interests include orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, trauma, oral pathology, wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, and office-based anesthesia and sedation. He is particularly drawn to procedures that combine technical precision with the opportunity to meaningfully improve a patient’s function, comfort, and confidence.

Dr. So has been involved in academics throughout his training. His research has been published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and he has presented his work at the annual meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). This commitment to advancing the field translates directly to patient care, ensuring his techniques reflect current evidence and emerging best practices.

Dr. So believes the best surgical outcomes start with a conversation. He takes time to explain procedures in plain language, walk through alternatives, and make sure every question is answered before treatment begins. His calm, approachable demeanor puts even the most anxious patients at ease.

Outside the operating room, Dr. So is a husband and father of two. He enjoys pickleball, rock climbing, and exploring the Northern Virginia dining scene.
